I had just started taking ethics class with the others, so I wouldn't say we were friends yet. I just spent the whole time mocking him and his curriculum.

[Shrug. Michael can see, in retrospect, that it was a bit childish. He'd just been angry at having to ally with them in the first place, and angry with Eleanor for putting some dumb condition on it.]

So he just decided we should have this long talk about how if I got caught and retired, I would be functionally dead and the world would go on without me, completely uncaring, as if I'd never existed, and I would only experience oblivion. [you know, fun!] Technically, that last part isn't entirely true, I'd have been experiencing endless agony. But I'd honestly never thought about things like that before - the universe never had existed without me in it.

[so tl;dr the immortal understood the concept of mortality for a second and lost his shit]
