[ There's a twinge in Alex's gut. He sits with that, lonely. It doesn't make him regret what he'd said, any more than he regrets how he acted at all with the Raven Queen's eye. But it puts some things in perspective.
And truly, Alex hates that eye-opening feeling. But he wouldn't be him, if he ignored it. ]
You know. You... You're probably on to something there, I ...I think he killed me for calling him needy. [ There's more to it, of course, the confrontation, the lack of fear. Ogata was just a guy, something Alex could do something about. What was he to be afraid of? He stumbles over that, a little withdrawn. ] Don't think the fucker even realizes how much he contacts me.
[ Were Alex in the mood for another riveting conversation about how much his life sucked before all this, he'd put in the opinion that oblivion is endless agony, in its own sense, and he's experienced it enough to know.
But. You know. Stay on topic. ]
Never. You- you immortal suckers never thought about this kind of... Well, shit, no wonder your world's so fucked up, if that's just how all the guys running the joint operate. [ But he laughs, for a moment. ] Sounds like it kinda served you right, getting a look at it from...well, from the human perspective.
[ What Alex has spent the last 48 hours in a panicked rush, trying to find and/or make presents for those he's come to care for.
...And he is far from finished, by the time gifts start showing up on his doorstep. It's between rushes to the Fantasy Costco and beyond that he comes across the first wave, and among that is Lion's. Probably the first one that's been laid down here, knowing Lion. The stuffed raven he holds close, the notebook even closer. Isn't it silly, how a simple painting can send him almost to his knees? When he has a real photograph, right here? Funny, right?
It's more toward the afternoon when Alex finds Lion, with a box of his own. He'd searched around the Quad, the dorms, almost went to New Aspen itself. But, of course where he hits gold is the library. Stupid of him to think otherwise. ]
Finally! [ He readjusts the box in his arms. It's...nondescript, actually. Clearly like, wrapped. ] You are a hard dude to track down.
[ It was only meant to be a short stop to deliver Leon's present. Nothing more, nothing less - and they couldn't very well leave him out after everything he's done for them, could they? It wouldn't be fair. More importantly, it'd be against the spirit of the season.
So when Alex turns up, what he finds is an uncommonly frazzled looking Lion. It's clear that they didn't expect anyone to be awake, or... to be looking for them. Everyone else has more important people to spend the day with, after all, and they're planning on just running back to their room and sleeping after this, so why bother?
Which, anyone who's been surprised by someone they know at the grocery store at 3am could tell you is exactly what would happen. ]
Um.
[ Eloquent. ]
Happy... Candlenights to you too? [ Ugh, that was bad. They wince and break into a less alarmed smile. ] I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were looking for me. Otherwise I would've made it harder.
[ It's radio silence from Alex for a few days. Not even a thank you text. That's...weird, right? It's probably even more weird when he shows up at her door, looking...flustered? Is that the right word? Some kind of nervous.
There's a tacky polka dot bag in one hand, and an envelope in the other. It doesn't occur to him that...it's afternoon and Sayori might not be here, at her room. Not until he's knocking. ]
[ That's a feeling Alex knows well. The avoidance, the surprise, the......lack of sleep. Game recognizes game, as they say. Still, he frowns down at Lion, eyebrows raised. ]
[ Oof, critical hit. Both from the appeal to their stuffy, rule-abiding nature and also making them go through the five stages of face-journey-grief at the name fuckery. ]
...It would be cruel to stress him out on Candlenights, wouldn't it? Especially if it's just a prank. [ Party pooper. Ssssiiigh. ] Better not, then.
[ And Alex has received the best gift of all: realising that Lion was fucking with him. ]
Really, I am sorry, though. I didn't mean to send you in circles. What happened?
[ ... as if people only come looking for them when something goes wr- actually yeah that. that's accurate. ]
